Downslope Wind Event

Forecast Period: 6 PM Thursday through Noon Friday
Text Updated: 3 PM on Wednesday, May 8th

Strong easterly winds are expected to develop in portions of Northern Utah Thursday evening into Friday morning.

Areas of concern lie between Brigham City and Bountiful as well as along the eastern side of the Cache Valley. In particular, areas right along the higher terrain between Layton and Bountiful look to see the strongest gusts.

Strong crosswinds along US-89 and U-15 will make for difficult travel for high profile vehicles, especially as wind speeds peak during the overnight hours.

Winds slowly diminish through Friday morning, with no more than a few breezes by Friday afternoon.

Motorists are advised to use caution and TravelWise. Motorists using canyon and mountain routes should be aware Traction Laws may be enforced.

The following routes will experience weather-related travel concerns during the forecast period:

  • I-15 between North Salt Lake and Honeyville
  • I-84 near the mouth of Weber Canyon
  • US-89 Near Logan, North Salt Lake to Brigham City
